Job Summary

AECOM is looking for a motivated individual to provide dedicated onsite Safety, Health, and Environmental support and leadership for a complex remediation/demolition/restoration project in Carson, CA.


  • Ensures the company’s safety, health, and environment (SH&E) policy and procedural arrangements are complied with and enforced.

  • Assists with hazard assessments and mitigation planning, assesses occupational safety training needs and provides/coordinates training where needed, supports compliance with AECOM policy and procedures, OSHA, DOT, EPA and other applicable SH&E regulations, assesses subcontractor SH&E performance and qualifications, project SH&E auditing, supports requests for proposals, provides SH&E oversight, implements behavioral safety programs, practices incident prevention through design.

  • Supports the development of policy and procedure in accordance the AECOM America’s SH&E Program, develops SH&E communications, implements recognition and reward programs, and reports on AECOM SH&E performance.

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including understanding of current business trends.

  • May have budgeting responsibilities.

  • Maintains self-knowledge of SH&E, keeps up to date with local legislation and company procedures.

  • Prepares, organizes and participates in site safety training programs.

  • Maintains close liaison with the Client’s and Contractor’s Safety Personnel.

  • Attends and leads regular safety meetings.

  • Checks safety requirements in method statements and permit to work procedures submitted by contractors.

  • Completes regular site safety inspections and ensure items requiring action are closed out to an acceptable standard.

  • Checks that all required safety standards and applicable safety regulations are observed.

  • Checks proper inspection, maintenance, calibration, and operation of all safety equipment.

  • Checks site security, fire, first aid, welfare facilities and procedures appropriate to the works are provided and properly maintained.

  • Investigates all incidents and near misses and reports in accordance with the Client requirements and as per the AECOM America’s SH&E Program.

  • Set a high personal example of Health & Safety at all items.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS & 6+ years of relevant experience OR an AA/AS (US) & 8+ years of relevant experience OR HS/GED & 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Must be willing to be onsite at Client location on daily basis

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizen is required.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain. Variable environmental conditions include heat, dusts, noise, and chemicals.

  • This position requires frequent (more than 50% of the workday) standing/walking, keyboard/mouse operations, and working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; often (25-50% of the workday) performing repetitive bending/stooping, and lifting less than 25 pounds; occasionally (10-25% of the workday) power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operating vehicles, climbing stairs, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting of 25-50 pounds; rarely (less than 10% of the workday) working with arms above shoulder level, working at heights, working in confined spaces, working alone in isolated/remote areas, and lifting greater than 50 pounds.

  • Position will include conducting field work and wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, and hearing protection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years in site safety management roles within Oil and Gas industry

  • Experience as Client representative in and SHE role

  • Experience supporting multiple activities/projects and on working with SHE regulatory agencies and Corporate support functions.

  • CSP or CIH certification is desired
