AECOM Architectural Design Project Manager in Los Angeles, California

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an Aviation Architectural Design Manager for immediate employment. Candidate will be responsible for the management of all design-phase services for one or more aviation projects, in accordance with the written project/design documents and established policies and procedures.

Job Summary:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform airport programming and planning assignments in conjunction with airport terminal planners

  • Perform stakeholder engagement activities to obtain input for planning and programming airport terminal and associated facilities.

  • Prepare project definition manuals to memorialize planning and programming findings

  • Develop and conduct presentations, public speaking and prepare written communications through good writing skills

  • Provide oversight of project design consultant(s) and all design and submittal reviews

  • Coordinate project designs and design reviews with owner departments, stakeholders and applicable governing agencies

  • Collect and reconcile comments from internal design reviews and stakeholder input

  • Evaluate and provide recommendations to Lead Design Manager/Program Manager/Program Director for changes and/or modifications to the design consultant scope of services

  • Monitor project design cost and schedule control vs. project budget

  • Provide review and verify progress payments of design consultants

  • Perform reviews and develop recommendations in the proposed settlement of change orders, claims, and revisions to the design contract schedule and budget

  • Assist in the development of RFQs and RFPs, and provide support as requested during the procurement process

  • Close out the design review process and transition the project to the Construction Manager

  • Provide (or oversee the provision of) construction support/administration services, to include responding to all Requests for Information (RFIs), Submittals, shop drawings and other design-related inquiries

  • Report to the Program Manager/Program Director and be responsible for the successful delivery of the project design phase activities, design budget, compliance, scope definition, construction delivery support and field engineering from inception through closeout of all projects

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS plus 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Licence in Engineering or Architecture.

  • 15 plus years of experience in managing aviation design projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to obtain a SIDA-cleared badge at Airports

  • Possess a valid Class C driver’s license, and be able to obtain certification to drive on Airport’s AOA movement area

  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive US and International aviation design and construction experience at major (large & medium) hub airports

  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience in managing the design and implementation teams on large, complex aviation programs with at a minimum of one (1) program at a major-hub airport with a capital program of at least $500 million

  • Experience with and understanding of LEED certification requirements, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules and guidelines are preferred.

  • Experience with alternative project delivery methods (for example design-bid-build, design-build, and construction manager at risk)

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Willing to travel for project assignments
