AECOM Controllership Director, Risk and Controls in Los Angeles, California

Job Summary

The Director of Risks and Controls is responsible for communicating and implementing risk policies and processes. The Director reports to the Vice President of Risk and Controls and forms strong relationships with all key stakeholders across AECOM’s diversified operations.

The Director will facilitate the identification, evaluation, management and mitigation of issues representing accounting, financial or operational risk. The Director works with both internal and external audit to plan and execute the annual assessment of internal controls over financial reporting. Strong knowledge of accounting and internal controls will assist you in identifying and mitigating risks, ensure accurate documentation of control descriptions, and outlining the company’s accounting policies.

Ideally this position will report to our Los Angeles office, however we would consider other major US AECOM office locations for the right candidate.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise audit of internal controls over financial reporting

  • Liaise with internal and external audit regarding the timing and extent of global testing

  • Advocate for management in planning and reviewing results of audit testing

  • Proactively communicate status and solutions for issues to management

  • Coordinate with the Corporate Controllership and other key stakeholders in the development of policies and controls documentation for new or revised accounting standards

  • Identify process improvements to enhance speed and accuracy in financial reporting

  • Work with process and business owners to proactively identify and correct weaknesses in internal control

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or similar and 12+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 4 years of leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA preferred

  • Strong understanding of accounting and auditing standards, theories, concepts and terms (including Sarbanes Oxley, COSO Integrated Control Framework, and enterprise risk management)

  • Understanding of IT audit procedures, techniques, and internal control concepts

  • Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred

  • Prior experience with Hyperion and Oracle is a plus

  • Advance Excel user and working knowledge of Access a plus

  • Strong analytic and communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Self-motivated, adaptive, proactive, quick learner that works well with others with minimal supervision

  • Prior experience in the construction and engineering industry a plus
