Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Programming and Planning Architect focused on supporting our Federal projects to be based in one of our Southern California offices. We are open to this person being seated in our Orange, San Diego or Los Angeles office.

Our Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism and planning (inclusive of landscape design), strategy + (workplace consulting), economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our Southern California practice focuses on the Federal, Science and Technology, Higher Education and Healthcare market sectors. Job Summary/Responsibilities:

As a Federal Programming and Planning Architect at AECOM, you will play a pivotal role in leading architectural programming and planning efforts for federal projects. Working within a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet federal requirements and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Architectural Programming: Lead the development of comprehensive programming documents that outline project requirements, objectives, and spatial needs. Conduct site assessments, occupancy studies, and user interviews to inform programming decisions.

  2. Interior Design Test-Fits: Include collaborative and close coordination with interior design practice for concept design that include approved furniture test-fit solutions for a fully validated program.

  3. Interdisciplinary Coordination: Working with a inter-disciplinary team to provide a concept designs that are coordinated design approach.

  4. Strategic Planning: Develop strategic architectural plans and design concepts aligned with federal guidelines, policies, and sustainability objectives. Ensure that proposed designs integrate with the client's mission and operational requirements.

  5. Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with federal regulations, building codes, and industry standards relevant to architectural design and planning. Ensure that projects adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and certification requirements.

  6. Budget Management: Assist in establishing project budgets and cost estimates based on programming and planning requirements. Monitor project expenditures and financial performance to ensure alignment with budgetary constraints and client expectations.

  7. Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with federal clients, agencies, and project stakeholders. Facilitate collaborative discussions and workshops to gather input, feedback, and consensus on project goals and priorities.

  8. Design Oversight: Provide technical guidance and oversight throughout the design development process. Review architectural drawings, specifications, and models to ensure compliance with project requirements and design intent.

  9. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with architectural programming and planning activities. Develop proactive mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address issues and minimize project disruptions.

  10. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project activities, decisions, and milestones. Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and documentation for internal review and client presentations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning or a related field

  • 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Architectural Licensure or Professional Engineer

  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in architectural programming, planning, and design, with at least 4 recent years of that focus having been on federal projects.

  • Proficiency in architectural software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Strong understanding of federal guidelines, building codes, and sustainability standards.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across organizational levels.

  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and resources.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $110,000.00 - $140,000.00.
