Job Description

AECOM's Transit & Rail Major Projects & Programs Group is seeking a creative, highly talented and experienced mid-level Transportation/Transit Planner III for immediate employment in AECOM's Los Angeles, CA Office .


The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in transportation planning, with specialization in multimodal, transit and rail corridor planning. The best candidates will have experience with NEPA and/or CEQA environmental clearance of transit corridor projects. The best candidates will have an interdisciplinary background and be knowledgeable and versatile in transportation planning, transportation engineering, environmental planning, and urban planning/land use planning.


  • Perform a variety of transit planning studies, such as feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and NEPA/CEQA environmental clearance.

  • Conduct task management for complex planning and conceptual engineering studies.

  • Perform technical calculations for analyzing transportation projects, including capital and operating cost estimates, ridership forecasts, operations metrics, and other performance measures.

  • Research and recommend priorities, schedules, and funding sources to implement transportation improvement plans.

  • Conduct research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.

  • Provide professional planning assistance to clients on varied land use and transportation projects.

  • Develop plans, studies, and analyses for transit projects.

  • Support in the environmental analysis for a range of environmental resources

  • Perform field inspections to gather data

  • Work with GIS and other planning software.

  • Write and present formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondence.

  • Assist with the preparation of proposals for company pursuits.



  • BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.


  • Master's Degree in Planning or related field

  • Experience in NEPA/CEQA Environmentally Clearing Transportation Projects

  • GIS Experience

  • Data Analysis, including visual graphics

  • Experience with Capital Planning for Transit Projects

  • Experience in Transportation Planning for urban transit systems

  • Proficient with excel spreadsheets, word processing and standard office software

  • Ability to work well in teams in an open office environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional Information

  • Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $70,222.96 - $129,912.47.
