AECOM Environmental Scientist in Massachusetts, Massachusetts

Job Summary

The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking a Hazmat focused Environmental Scientist for immediate employment with the EHS Department in the Chelmsford, Massachusetts office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate at least 4 years of experience directly applicable to regulatory compliance and hazardous building materials (asbestos, lead paint, PCBs, etc.) surveys, abatement oversight, air monitoring, and design projects. The successful candidate will have enough experience to be able to independently conduct field work and prepare the associated reports for a wide variety of compliance projects as well as building hazardous material projects/surveys. The position will require that the candidate be available to perform work in both the field and office and be able to travel out-of-town for durations ranging from one week to three months, as needed. Background in other areas of the EHS field such as compliance auditing, permitting, and due diligence is preferred but not required. Candidate will have the ability to cross-train and work within these skillsets.

This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.

  • Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.

  • Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.

  • Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.

  • Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.

  • Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state

  • and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Works under general supervision.

  • Must have the required skills to perform field surveys independently with no Supervision

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/ BS in Environmental Science or related field with 4+ years of experience

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 + Years of experience in Environmental Science

  • 40 Hour Hazwoper

  • MA Asbestos Inspector/monitor/designer
