Job Description
Join AECOM's Civil Engineer - Highway / Transportation Design Team in Pittsburgh, PA to work on a variety of challenging and interesting projects. Projects range from roadway and site-civil design, highway and bridge projects, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies. We work on a hybrid office schedule with 3 days in the office/field and 2 days remote.
Current notable projects include:
I-80 Reconstruction (Jefferson County, PA) - Six-mile section of rural interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, interchange ramp improvements, and reconstruction of two overhead bridges.
I-70 Reconstruction (Washington County, PA) - Model-based delivery project for a six-mile section of rural interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, interchange ramp improvements, and reconstruction of 18 structures through the corridor.
W Washington St Reconstruction (Bradford, PA) - Drainage model-based delivery pilot project for a one-mile section of urban corridor, including full depth roadway reconstruction, sidewalk improvements and drainage upgrades.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Develop design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details
Identify utility conflicts and coordinate resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs
Develop construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimates
Implement 3D CADD modeling techniques
Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards
Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures
Complete interdisciplinary technical reviews
Contribute to internal project-related staffing decisions to facilitate meeting client schedule, scope, and budget
Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations
Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client’s scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making.
Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers
Attributes
Independently analyzes and applies solutions to challenging issues within area of expertise by applying critical thinking
Applies broad knowledge of at least one professional discipline or advanced knowledge of specific technical and operational practices
Prepares project deliverables that are reviewed by senior team members
Obtains technical certificates and licenses, where applicable
Contributes in one or more areas of knowledge, providing proposed improvements to existing processes and delivering solutions where precedent may not exist
Performs a self-check of work products prior to submitting to others
Performs technical quality reviews including documentation in project record in accordance with policies and procedures
Assists with proposals to provide services or obtain funding for projects or programs
Work is accomplished autonomously on small projects or portions of larger projects within established procedures and practices
Generally free to determine work priorities based on direction from manager and project team leads
Begins to interact directly with client to gather information and discuss project requirements
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET plus a minimum of four (4) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, with highway transportation projects located in the United States
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification
Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or similar design highway or transportation design applications
Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Design experience with PennDOT and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects
Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, Traffic, Site-Civil projects
Demonstrated experience with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software (MS Office)
Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams
Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $85,000.00 - $130,000.00.
