Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Traffic/ Safety Engineer to be based in Minneapolis, MN. This position provides a career path to grow within the traffic team and develop technical and business skills. Ideal candidates should have a thirst to grow their career and a desire to assist in the expansion of traffic services and business in the Minnesota market.

Position Details:

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests

  • Serves as task lead for planning, preliminary engineering and final design projects

  • Serving in various roles on local Traffic/Safety projects or tasks as capture manager, project manager, technical leader, technical advisor, or quality control

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments

  • Support proposal development by preparing technical scopes and contributing to level-of-effort estimates

  • Provides guidance to junior engineers on technical approach, technical analysis and quality reviews

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works

  • Opportunity to support national projects, such as transit and alternative delivery

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position

  • Maintaining and expanding local industry presence including actively participating in professional organizations

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Professional Engineer license in Minnesota (or if licensed in another state, the ability to obtain within 6 months)

  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)

  • Experience in traffic safety analysis

  • Experience in traffic design elements which may include signing and marking, traffic signal design or lighting design

  • Experience with MicroStation or other similar applications

  • Experience working on projects for MNDOT and Minnesota Counties or Cities

  • Experience in technical execution of tasks for traffic engineering projects with an emphasis of microsimulation and modeling of all modes of transportation and facility types

  • Proficient with Synchro/SimTraffic and HCS software. Vissim modeling is a plus

  • Expertise with Highway Capacity Manual and FHWA Traffic Analysis Toolkit methodologies

  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)

  • Experience in managing a team of other transportation professionals

  • Experience in proposal development and other business development activities

  • Active in professional and industry organizations

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $100,000.00 - $175,000.00.
