Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Geologist / Environmental Scientist for employment in the Morrisville, NC office.

This position is expected to begin in January 2021.

About DCSA—Environment

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Support execution of projects involving soil and groundwater investigation, compliance, and remediation activities in accordance with the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, or other regulatory programs.

  • Assist Project Managers in efficient execution of project scope of work on time and within budget.

  • Provide field services for site investigation, drilling, UST removal, soil, air, and groundwater sample collection, and related work.

  • Provide office support for data management and report preparation.

  • Maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.

  • Substantial (50-75%) out of town, overnight travel required. Ability to travel out-of-State (NC) to complete field work (potentially>10 days or longer). Position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina and will require overnight travel primarily in the Mid-Atlantic States (primarily NC, VA, SC).

  • Ability to work independently with diverse staff in office and non-office setting (i.e., outdoors, undeveloped/wooded areas, year-round).

  • Field tasks may require ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to conform to AECOM travel policies, including ability to obtain and hold the AECOM corporate credit card for use in making travel-related purchases.

  • Must demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.

  • Candidate will be required to enter AECOM medical monitoring program and additional medical compliance as applicable to meet client requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Environmental Science.

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel; Access a plus) are desirable.

  • Non-office/field skills: problem solving, mechanical knowledge.

  • Report writing, data organization, and presentation skills.

  • Understanding and application of the fundamentals of schedule and budget management to project tasks.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain medical clearance for driving and wearing a respirator.

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • COVID requirements: follow appropriate CDC recommendations as to hand washing, mask wearing and socially distancing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Geology or Environmental Science.

  • 0-2 years of environmental experience (Experience in soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well drilling and construction management).

  • Strong math and/or data analysis skills

  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER Tra.ining (29 CFR 1910.120).

  • CADD / ARC-GIS.

  • Experienced in soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well drilling and construction management.

  • Aquifer testing, groundwater/fate and transport modeling experience.

  • Geophysical instrumentation/interpretation experience.

  • Mechanical, problem solving skills.

  • PG License/tract to obtain.

  • Good communicator, self-motivated, good mechanical aptitude, and competent use of safe-work behaviors.

  • Ability to write and convey thoughts, and organize data in an efficient and clear manner; have excellent attention to detail; effectively multi-task; and desire to contribute to a dynamic team.

  • Ability to work independently.
