Job Description
In collaboration with the Managing Principal, Practice Studio Lead, and Operations Director, the Senior Architect supports the general direction and strategy for practice activities such as project delivery, client targeting, business development, client relationship management, and advocacy for design excellence within the office. Our Senior Architect consistently demonstrates a commitment to our core values and supports a culture for the Practice as a high-achieving, very market-competitive, and sustainable enterprise. This position will serve multiple business functions. This role is to be based in Murray, UT.
ARCHITECTURE & PLANNING (60%)
The most important attribute for this position is the successful track record of fostering a positive culture in a studio environment while winning and delivering work in several of the Responsible for providing architectural guidance, calculations, analysis, studies and recommendations for a specialized segment of the Architectural and Planning Discipline within the schedules and budget of an assigned project.
Preferred Capabilities Include:
Lead multi-disciplined project teams
Prepare architectural plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications
Prepare reports and planning level studies
Coordinate internal AECOM and external A/E disciplines for successful outcomes during construction
Coordinate and attend design reviews with clients, project managers, and municipal agencies
Validate design decisions based on cost analysis with an understanding of logistics and procurement efficiencies
Evaluate contractor’s progress during construction and provide recommendations
Stay current with new design software developments (i.e., BIM, Revit, Autodesk 360, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)
Apply creative design thinking to client’s business problems to help maximize value of AECOM’s service to the client
CLIENT MANAGEMENT and PROJECT MANAGEMENT (20%)
This position will work in tandem with the Studio Lead and Managing Principal to monitor, adjust, and advance project delivery.
Responsibilities include:
Work with the Managing Principal and Studio Lead to ensure that projects are being proactively managed to scope and fee.
Manage projects of various sizes with groups of architects, designers and/or specialists.
Provide leadership on complex projects.
Lead the development of contract documents through all phases of design from inception to construction closeout.
Develop and maintain meeting agendas and minutes to coordinate the regular assignment and completion of project tasks.
Coordinate communication efforts within the practice and across business lines, as well as technical consultants, to provide clients with comprehensive deliverables.
Coordinate and lead quality control reviews of contract documents prior to issuance to client
STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT (20%)
This position will maintain client relationships and consistently identify opportunities for new, inspiring work for the Practice, which is an integrated team of architectural, landscape, planning, and engineering professionals.
Responsibilities include:
Identification of target clients in support of the strategic goals of the Managing Principal and Business Development professionals
The marketing of our services by working closely with the Managing Principal, Business Development, Marketing and Design and Engineering Principals of the firm
Consistent participation and application in all identified project go/no-go evaluations
Marketing Leadership via active participation in projects through all phases, from initial client contacts through marketing pursuits, sales efforts and contract negotiations
Remain engaged in the project, participating in the project kick-off, feasibility studies, strategic planning, master planning, programming, conceptual studies, schematic, design, design development, construction documentation, bidding and award, construction administration, move-in, follow-up and on-going client relationship maintenance.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field +8 years’ of relevant A/E industry experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience or education
Professional registration as an Architect
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Certificate and/or credentialing for urban planning
Supporting experience in urban planning to facilitate improved architectural outcomes.
Established client relationships in Utah
LEED Accreditation or Well Certification and interest in sustainable design
Strong technical skills related to planning, architectural design and detailing
Experience coordinating work with a variety of disciplines: civil, landscape, and MEPS
Diversified knowledge of architectural principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields
Past project management experience leading small to mid-sized teams
Municipal, DoD, and/or Commercial project experience strongly desired
Working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building structures
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Proficient in 3D modeling software: Revit, Sketchup and/or Rhino
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with peers, clients and contractors
Ability to mentor and lead junior staff
Experience with construction administration and permitting processes
Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects
Ability to be client facing, lead client discussions and charrettes
Additional Information
- Sposnorship is not available for this role
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $105,000.00 - $135,000.00.
