AECOM Electrical Engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana

Job Summary

AECOM has a position available an Electrical Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at any one of our Energy offices within the United States.

The Energy group provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). We are looking for an up-and-coming leader with a power engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base.

The successful candidate is expected to be a detail orientated, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff. The focus of the experience must be in the energy or power industry associated with electrical engineering and design and interconnection and distribution systems. Experience with battery energy storage and/or solar/wind power is a plus. This is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into a senior level engineering role.

The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under the guidance of senior staff

  • Performing Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis) under the guidance of a lead or senior engineer

  • One-line diagrams

  • Electrical Load List

  • Protective relay and metering one line / three-line diagrams

  • AC/DC schematics

  • Panel Layouts

  • Equipment layouts and sectional views

  • Connection Diagrams

  • Motor Schematics

  • Bill of Materials

  • Cable and Conduit Schedules

  • DC power distribution design

  • Developing construction and equipment specifications

  • Supporting projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning

  • Grounding Analysis and Design

  • Cable Tray Design

  • Lighting Calculations and Design

  • Attending client meetings

Level specific responsibilities:

  • Perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer

  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures

  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests

  • Propose approach to solve new problems encountered

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with some supervision.

DCS—Energy

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering is desired

  • 2+ Years of experience as an Electrical Engineer associated with the design of electrical distribution systems.

  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, PIP etc).

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Familiarity with power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, Etap).

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD

  • Familiarity with Solar or wind facilities
