Job Description
AECOM has a position available for a Piping Designer to support our growing Energy Business Line. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
Our team provides a wide range of mechanical engineering services across markets sectors including oil and gas – upstream, midstream and downstream refining, industrial processes (chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage), mining/bulk material handling and future and renewable fuels (such as hydrogen, renewable natural gas, biogas, carbon capture). We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to with a process piping background and project leadership experience to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base.
The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience in mechanical and piping design and technology principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with an excellent attention to detail.
The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Ability to take general direction and simple sketches from engineers to then develop design criteria and progress through all stages of design – feasibility through construction support.
Day to day design and preparation of mechanical and piping deliverables to achieve efficient facility design considering constructability, safety and cost
Equipment general arrangements, P&ID’s, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.
Prepare bills of materials and quantity take offs
Employ a variety of data sources to build project model environment including but not limited to laser scan, vendor files, existing base surfaces from LiDAR, survey points and contours.
Detailed understanding of coordinate systems and the ability to transform data from one system to another.
Data management of survey and client data through the project life cycle.
Meeting with clients for project kickoff, ongoing design review, and project close out.
Works under limited supervision.
Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting
Creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards
Contributes to a complete and integrated set of digital project content which includes but not limited to identification of discipline and vendor interfaces, clashes, etc. by working co-operatively with team members to resolve issues
Assist with preparation of project specification and contract documents
Ability to check and verify work prepared by peer/group
Applies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US mechanical and industrial infrastructure
Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS + 4 years of relevant industrial experience or AA/AS + 6 years of relevant industrial experience
High level design and CAD skills and technical competency in the field of mechanical and/or piping engineering
Physical design experience for industrial facilities
Proficient in AutoCAD Plant 3D
Able to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary
Preferred Qualifications:
Adaptability and fervent curiosity in learning new software and applications
Experience utilizing and integrating data sets into 3D model (e.g. laser scans, LiDAR, etc.)
Experience in CadWorx, Revit, Solidworkx, ReCap
Experience with Plant 3D project setup and specification generation
Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks)
Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360
Experience with field walk downs
Working knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysis
2+ yrs experience as project technical piping lead
Strong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development
Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations
Understanding of vendor documentation and it’s use as a reference for assigned tasks
Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
Comprehensive knowledge of industry (including safety) standards
