AECOM Department Manager Marine in New York City, New York

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Department Manager Marine for NYC office.

The position requires good command of Structural Engineering, Hydrodynamics, Wave loading and Impact loading. Good knowledge of FEMA regulations and Federal Standards is a plus.

Job Description Summary:

The Department Manager holds a central and very important role with regards to project delivery. He or she will be responsible for the department organization, staffing, project assignments, execution of the work, quality, schedule and budget. The Department Manager (DM) is critical to performing quality work and driving project delivery.

In this role the DM will also interface with executive management and the Business Line leaders. This position requires good communication skills and an ability to adequately communicate technical concepts to others and assist in proposal development and business presentations.

Position Responsibilities:

The DM will ensure that adequate and appropriate technical staff is assigned to projects. He or she must be integrally involved in the department functions and in every project. The DM must also provide constant monitoring and feedback to ensure proper delivery and coordination with other disciplines. Detailed responsibilities include:

  1. Overall management of the department staff, this includes:

a. Proper and adequate utilization of the staff

b. Projections of work load and correlation with staffing needs

c. Identifying areas of expertise and promoting them or strengthening them as needed

  1. Technical Excellence, this includes

a. Ensuring accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC protocols while maintaining and enhancing project profitability

b. Ensuring that engineering deliverables (e.g. drawings, specifications, analysis, etc.) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices

c. Performing internal peer reviews and/or technical project reviews as well as vetting conceptual designs and setting projects on the right track

  1. Staff Development, this includes

a. Advancing innovation and technology

b. Expanding technical ability of the department by hiring in the areas with capability deficit

c. Bringing talent into the organization

d. Providing leadership and mentoring of technical staff

e. Identifying and assisting in promoting growth in key strategic markets as well as with key strategic clients

f. Championing staff to become involved in technical associations and technical papers presentation

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 10 Years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership

  • Marine Experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience

  • PE preferred
