Job Summary

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Planning Professional to join our Impact Assessment and Permitting team in our Oakland, California location. You will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering environmental planning, impact assessment, permitting and compliance services to our key clients.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities would include supporting and managing CEQA/NEPA documentation, technical studies, permitting, and grant applications. Other responsibilities may include leading and supporting business development activities, including coordination and preparation of materials for proposals and client engagement. Initial roles would include serving as deputy project manager and task manager, or technical specialist depending on the project assignment, with the opportunity to obtain experience and training to serve as a project manager. The anticipated portfolio of work would include environmental services for transportation, power, water, and development-related projects in Northern California.

Responsibilities of the position would include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze and describe environmental impacts of project activities for environmental documents that support CEQA and/or NEPA review and permitting.

  • Prepare or assist with grant applications for infrastructure project funding.

  • Coordinate project tasks among technical staff, subcontractors and clients.

  • Support project managers with financial and schedule management and reporting on ongoing tasks and projects.

  • Assist with quality reviews of colleague and subconsultant deliverables.

  • Manage document production, including ADA compliance, and assist with quality reviews on project deliverables.

  • Support the development of work scopes, staffing and cost estimates for tasks under existing contracts and new contracts, as needed.

  • Assist with coordination and moderation of project meetings.

  • Engage in business development activities and pursuits, including responding to proposals, conducting red team reviews, and identifying, researching, and tracking potential business opportunities.

This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Planning or related field plus 4 years of relevant experience in the environmental field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in successfully coordinating environmental document preparation and business development for environmental planning projects

  • Driver’s license

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively manage tasks and interact with teams of staff, subconsultants, and clients

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of competence and experience in working with teams, clients, and subcontractors

  • Exceptional detail orientation and attention to quality

  • Willingness and ability to learn and rapidly master new tasks

  • Strong research and writing skills
