AECOM Vegetation Ecologist / Restoration Specialist in Oakland, California

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a senior-level vegetation ecologist with experience in restoration planning and monitoring, environmental compliance, project management, and navigating the requirements of environmental permits and regulations. This position is based in AECOM’s Oakland or Sacramento office and would support a variety of clients on projects throughout northern California. This is a part-time position with scheduled weekly hours that may increase.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical expertise and oversight on projects involving restoration planning, vegetation monitoring, habitat management, and other related areas of expertise.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on current methodologies and regulations pertinent to the above areas of expertise.

  • Prepare a variety of written technical documents and provide senior review of technical documents prepared by others.

  • Work directly with client contacts in a proactive and collaborative manner to meet project goals. Provide creative strategies and solutions to project challenges.

  • Act as Project Manager on a variety of projects, including responsible and timely management of budget, project tasks, and project personnel.

  • Contribute as an active and positive member of AECOM’s Impact Assessment and Planning practice in the SF Bay Area.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff as needed.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS in Botany, Biology, Ecology, or a related field + 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency experience and or education.

Preferred Qualifications

Scientific study design and biostatistics; restoration planning, implementation oversight, and monitoring; knowledgeable about California plant species and vegetation types as well as state and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
