Job Summary

The Transportation group is actively seeking a Bridge Inspector/Assistant Structures Representative for immediate employment in the Orange, CA office. The selected candidate will provide Construction Management and Inspection services on highway and bridge projects in Southern California.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Ensure compliance with the construction contract requirements and shop drawing prepared by contractor

  • Verify field dimension including vertical and horizontal field control for structures

  • Performs daily field inspections

  • Prepare Daily diaries and maintains inspection records

  • Ability to review submittals including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, QA plans submitted by the contractor

  • Assist Structure Representative and Resident Engineer with response to Request for Information from Contractor

  • Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP

  • Inspects construction progress which may include ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications; observes work in progress to assure conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship

  • Prepare reports, opinions and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning the structures

  • Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction

  • Keep abreast of new methods and developments

  • General office administration, including report reproduction, collation and deliveries will also be expected

  • Assist Structure Representative with performing calculation of temporary structures as used in construction of bridges including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, temporary supports

  • Asist with preparing Change Order

  • Assist with preparation of final as-builts

  • Assist with perform constructability reviews

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 10+ years of experience including, previous work performing structures inspection services (bridges, retaining walls, etc.)

  • Ability to use and reference the following:

  • Caltrans Falsework Manual

  • Caltrans Trench and Shoring Manual

  • Bridge Construction Records and Procedures Manual

  • Caltrans Foundation Manual

  • Caltrans Prestress Manual

  • Caltrans Deck Construction Manual

  • Ability to work in various environment (office and field construction sites)

  • Ability to work alternative shifts including weekends and nights

  • Driver license

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • CA Professional Engineer

  • Certifications for applicable CTMs, ASTMs and/or ACI procedures and take samples and perform field-controlled tests of construction materials for quality assurance

  • Previous experience working with in Caltrans Right of way performing structures inspection
