Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer Department Lead to oversee and drive the success of our Ports & Marine engineering team. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with a deep understanding of port and marine infrastructure design and construction, and multi-disciplinary project leadership. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, manage high-profile projects, and mentor a team of engineers to deliver high-quality solutions for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers and technical staff specializing in marine structures, waterfront facilities, and port infrastructure.

  • Oversee Civil Engineer Department operations, resource planning, and strategic growth initiatives.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence within the team.

  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for junior and mid-level engineers.

Project Management & Technical Oversight:

  • Manage the design and execution of port and marine infrastructure projects, including site civil infrastructure, piers, wharves, seawalls, breakwaters, and dredging operations.

  • Coordinate and integrate civil design with results from geotechnical, structural, mechanical, and electrical designs.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety best practices.

  • Oversee technical reviews, quality control, and risk management for all engineering deliverables.

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.

Business Development & Client Relations:

  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships and understanding their unique project needs.

  • Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in industry events.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to streamline project approvals and execution.

Regulatory & Compliance Expertise:

  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Coordinate with agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the EPA, and Port Authorities for permitting and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in CA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on large site civil projects .

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience in ports, marine, or waterfront projects.

  • Proficiency in engineering drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley Microstation.

  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

  • Prior experience working with public agencies, private clients, and major port authorities.

  • Strong business development experience, including proposal writing and client negotiations.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $160,000.00 - $260,000.00.
