Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking an experienced and ambitious Natural Resources Team Leader/Senior Project Manager for immediate employment to grow our Natural Resources practice in the Orange, Los Angeles and Central Coast areas. Office location is flexible with ability for intermittent as-needed travel within that region. Primary duties will include growing and managing a team of Natural Resources staff located throughout the greater Orange, Los Angeles, and Central Coast areas, as well as overseeing a range of small- to large-scale projects and programs involving (but not limited to): impact assessments and mitigation planning; regulatory compliance and permitting efforts including CEQA/NEPA, 404/401, CESA, and ESA; resource agency consultation; large-scale field efforts; and preparation of environmental documents (CEQA and NEPA) and natural resource management plans. The candidate will contribute to growth of the department through marketing pursuits including proposal preparation, interviews, business development, and client relationship building (existing and new clients).
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to, those listed below:
Grow and oversee a diverse team of staff, including management of workload and utilization, assigning projects and tasks, guiding career development, conducting goal setting and annual performance reviews, as well as performing administrative tasks (e.g., timesheet/expense report approval)
Work directly with the Natural Resources Group Manager to create an inclusive work environment where staff can grow professionally and are supported in delivering their best work to internal and external clients
Lead hiring of junior and mid-level staff to grow the team, and provide supervision and mentoring to guide career development.
Expand project backload and revenue through marketing existing clients and actively pursuing opportunities with new clients as well as development of new business markets by building teams with complementary skillsets.
Program and account level management of key clients involving services such as large, complex environmental natural resources documents such as CEQA/NEPA documents, HCPs/NCCPs, Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, Habitat Management Plans, Restoration Plans, Jurisdictional Delineation Reports and/or Resource Agency Permitting Packages.
Manage projects/programs that include all aspects of environmental analysis (e.g., biological, cultural, air quality, traffic, etc.) and may involve large-scale field efforts and intensive schedules.
Perform project management duties such as forecasting, tracking project costs and schedule, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and take corrective action where necessary
Prepare competitive responses to Requests for Proposals for a variety of clients, including development of scope, fee, schedule, and deliverables, and participation in interviews
Operate as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on programs and projects
Collaborate with other supervisors in the office in a team-based environment
Contribute to growth of practice through business development

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field (e.g., biology, ecology, or project management/controls).
8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in natural resources project management.
Valid U.S. Driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in related field (biology, ecology, or project management/controls)
15+ years of experience in natural resources project management
Staff leadership experience, including hiring, mentoring and career development.
Be located in (or willingness to relocate to) the greater Los Angeles or Central Coast area to serve clients throughout the southern and central California region.
Experience working with Orange and Los Angeles-area clients (e.g., LADWP, City and County of Los Angeles), Central Coast agencies (e.g., County of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo), California utilities (e.g., SoCalGas, Southern California Edison), military (e.g., NAVFAC) and/or other clients local to the region.
Experience managing small and large-scale multi-disciplinary environmental projects, involving planning, permitting, compliance, and pre- and post-construction phases.
Strong leadership and diplomacy skills
Thrives independently and as part of a team.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated successful marketing/business development experience.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Additional Information
Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $120,000 - 150,000.00.
