Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Structural Engineer in the Greater Pennsylvania area to join the A/E Department in the Philadelphia, PA office.

AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be creative and impactful on a wide range of projects. Entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM's Graduate Development Program (GDP), a program designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

As an Entry-Level Structural Engineer, you will work with multi-discipline project teams in developing a range of engineering solutions from initial concepts to detailed design development and through construction. This is a diverse role that will involve your contributions and insight into the effective delivery of the department’s current and future portfolio of projects.

This position is expected to begin in June 2024.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertake design and planning activities on vertical building structural projects, including aviation facilities, transit stations, freight rail facilities, and ancillary buildings related to roadway projects.

  • Prepare structural designs utilizing hand calculations, Excel workbooks, and advanced structural analysis software to determine applied loading, demand requirements, and appropriate foundation and member specifications under the supervision of senior staff.

  • Develop design documentation (3D models, plans, sketches, and details) using Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Assist with the preparation of project specifications and reports.

  • Review construction submittals and RFI’s and assist with the development of detailed, timely responses.

  • Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed during both the design and construction phases of projects.

  • Perform condition assessments and site visits as needed and prepare reports. Occasional short-term site visits may become necessary depending on project requirements.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering or related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering degree with Structural Engineering concentration is highly desirable.

  • 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in the execution of structural design projects.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.

  • Some production software experience including but not limited to: Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, Bluebeam Revu is highly desirable.

  • Some structural analysis software experience including but not limited to: RAM Elements, RAM Structural System, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAFE is a plus.

  • Basic familiarity and working knowledge of relevant building codes and standards including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, ACI 530, NDS, etc.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.

  • Master of Science in Structural Engineering or related field is a plus.
