Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Planning Intern to join our team in Philadelphia, PA.
The position is expected to begin in May 2025.
The intern will work under the direction of a team of transportation, environmental planning, urban design, and public involvement professionals to support a variety of different planning projects throughout the region.

Responsibilities could include but are not limited to:
Assisting with report research, writing, and setup, including literature reviews and case studies relevant to planning projects
Visualization, mapping, and document design support, utilizing software such as Adobe Creative Suite and AutoCAD
Support for in-person or virtual public outreach, including venue selection, minutes, and preparation of public-facing communications
Preparation of GIS mapping and spatial analysis to support planning decisions
Data management, including collection, organization, and analysis of demographic, economic, and environmental data
Assisting in the development of comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances, and land use regulations
Contributing to the creation of presentation materials for client meetings and public hearings
Participating in site visits and field surveys to gather information for planning projects
Assisting in the preparation of grant applications and funding proposals
Supporting the team in project management tasks, such as scheduling and progress tracking
Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to integrate various aspects of urban planning
Researching best practices in sustainable urban development and smart city initiatives
Assisting in the development of transportation plans, including pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure
Contributing to environmental impact assessments and sustainability studies
Participating in internal team meetings and professional development opportunities
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban studies, or other related degree and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of ArcGIS.
Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban studies, or other related discipline.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to learn on the job and apply theory in a practical setting.
Excellent organizational skills.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $21.00/hour - $25.00/hour.
