The position is for an individual eager to help grow an existing transportation drainage group and requires functioning as a Team Leader for a team supporting transportation and a wide array of water resources projects. Team leader responsibilities include: mentoring and leading team staff; representing team staff at an Area level; project management; assisting Department and Area leadership with business and client development activities; and, supporting AECOM’s initiatives pertaining to staff and business growth. The position’s technical responsibilities include: performing and checking hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and models; preparing and reviewing stormwater designs; and, preparing design drawings, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and proposals.
The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in design / engineering, specific to transportation drainage, stormwater engineering, and/or municipal water resources projects. The incumbent can look forward to supporting AECOM’s Transportation and Water Business Units with a variety of clients including federal, industrial, municipal and state agency clients throughout the Rocky Mountain Area – AZ, CO, ID, NM, and UT.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Team Leader overseeing, mentoring, and representing a team of professional transportation drainage and municipal stormwater staff
Project Manager overseeing project financial metrics and work performed by multi-disciplinary teams working on transportation drainage and water resources projects
Professional Engineer overseeing project design and analysis of a variety of transportation drainage and municipal stormwater projects
Performing and/or directing design of stormwater control facilities (including detention/retention ponds and open channels) and directing surface water modeling, mapping, and designing of stormwater and flood control structures
Directing and reviewing documentation and calculations
Preparing engineering reports
Plans and prepares, or reviews, technical specifications according to the contract documents
Assisting with the marketing and proposal efforts for a variety of existing and new public and private clients
Supporting the Rocky Mountain Area Transportation Business Line and Surface Water Business Line
Assisting with the expansion of municipal stormwater and transportation drainage services provided by the Transportation-Surface Water Department
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related field, with an emphasis in hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water resources
10+ years of experience including 5+ years of experience overseeing projects as a Project Manager
Professional Engineer registration required
Exhibits in-depth knowledge of surface water modeling, planning and design projects and related technologies
Ability to communicate the technical aspects of projects to a wide audience
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills
Demonstrated familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS), and plan set production design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, Inroads Storm and Sanitary)
Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
Demonstrated understanding of business development and proposal response process
Must possess a valid driver's license
13+ years' experience preferred
State of Arizona Professional Engineer registration
Business development experience including client relations and proposal preparation
Team leadership experience supervising engineers, CAD technicians, surveyors and/or field inspectors
