Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Traffic Engineer/Microsimulation Specialist to be based in Pompano Beach, FL.
This position is expected to begin in June 2023.
Do you want to make a difference? AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Traffic Engineer to provide in-house consulting services with the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. The candidate will be part of a dynamic team, working on a wide variety of high-profile projects across Florida. This candidate will have the opportunity to bring original ideas and be on the forefront of planning and design that support future transportation improvements on existing roadways and new corridors. This position allows the candidate to explore and conduct analysis in connected/automated vehicles, managed lanes, innovative designs, and multi-resolution applications.
The successful candidate will serve as a junior traffic engineer within a dynamic and diverse group of traffic analysis professionals. Strong emphasis will be placed on technical understanding, high-quality deliverables, writing and communication skills, and the ability to ensure delivery excellence.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Participate in transportation planning assignments including micro-simulation, corridor studies, safety studies, Interchange Access Request (IAR) documentation and Transportation System Management and Operations (TSM&O) studies.
Conduct traffic analysis for Project Development and Environment (PD&E) and Design projects using HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, and Visum/Vissim software.
Analyze crash data and conduct predictive safety analysis.
Prepare Typical Section, Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESAL) and Lane Closure analysis memorandums for design projects.
Collect traffic data or perform surveys in the field when needed.
Coordinate with other technical disciplines including conceptual design, environmental management, traffic operations, right of way and others to develop recommendations for proposed improvements.
Assist with written reports and presentations of project findings that support PD&E studies, Design/Concept projects, signal warrant analysis and corridor retiming studies.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis on Transportation Engineering)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline can substitute for up to two years of work experience
Ph.D. degree in a related engineering discipline can substitute for up to three years of experience
Familiarity with the FDOT Traffic Analysis Handbook, Highway Capacity Manual, MUTCD, and Highway Safety Manual, Interchange Access Request User Guide.
Experience in traffic operational analysis software such as HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, and Vissim/Visum.
Knowledge in statistical analysis software (i.e. SPSS,R) and programming (i.e, VBA, C+, Python)
Knowledge of safety analysis using HSM, SPICE, ISATe, and IHSMD.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in making presentations.
