AECOM Senior Environmental Engineer - PFAS in Portland, Maine

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer for employment within our DCS - Environmental Remediation Practices group to support remediation system design and operations, soil and groundwater investigations and remediation projects. Specifically, work related to Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) remediation / treatment. The candidate will have prior experience in remediation system design and management/oversight of operations, maintenance, and monitoring. In addition, the candidate will have experience in data management and technical report production. The position requires strong multi-discipline technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively both independently and collaboratively with engineers and scientists on a variety of remediation projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills are critical for this role.

This position can be located anywhere within the eastern time zone. The Enviornmental Engineer will travel 30% of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete PFAS remediation project life-cycle activities:

  • Investigation (studies, environmental media sampling, drinking water evaluation, water quality evaluation, groundwater monitoring)

  • Treatment / Remedial Design (Rapid Small-Scale Column Tests (RSSCTs), feasibility evaluation of treatment technologies, pilot studies, contribute to and support remedial treatment designs)

  • Remedial implementation (construction support, permitting, design clarifications)

  • Operations (evaluation of treatment performance, routine and non-routine maintenance activities, development of operation and maintenance plans)

  • Interfacing and writing reports to clients and regulatory agencies.

  • Planning and managing environmental field work, including pre-design investigations, remediation systems operations, maintenance, and monitoring, groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging and oversight of subcontractors.

  • Modeling and analysis of remediation performance and subsurface conditions.

  • Supporting project managers with tasks including budgeting, schedule, scope development and cost tracking.

  • Ability to support business development with pre-proposal meetings, site visits, proposal writing, and reviews.

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team and participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables

  • Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays. Requires 30% travel commitment.

  • Build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.

  • Provide engineering and design support for private industrial and municipal remediation projects.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) package.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements

  • Analyze data and prepare and review engineering related reports, plans, calculations, drawings, figures, and specifications using accepted engineering practices and procedures.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related field and 6+ years of direct remediation experience or demostrated equivalency of experince and/or education

  • Valid driver's license, subject to a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record Screening

  • Due to the nature of this role, US citizenship is required

  • Must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • FE or EIT required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in environmental consulting and remediation system design

  • PE

  • PFAS related experience (project life-cycle):

  • Investigation (studies, environmental media sampling, drinking water evaluation, water quality evaluation, groundwater monitoring)

  • Treatment / Remedial Design (Rapid Small-Scale Column Tests (RSSCTs), feasibility evaluation of treatment technologies, pilot studies, contribute to and support remedial treatment designs)

  • Remedial implementation (construction support, permitting, design clarifications)

  • Operations (evaluation of treatment performance, routine and non-routine maintenance activities, development of operation and maintenance plans)

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training

  • Master’s Degree is a plus

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent attention to Health and Safety
