AECOM Architectural Historian Intern in Portland, Oregon

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Architectural Historian Intern to be based in our Portland, OR office. This position will support our Impact, Assessment & Permitting team within our Environment business line.

This position is expected to begin April/May 2022. This position is expected to be part-time during the summer, however there may be flexibility to work full-time or extend the duration.

Job Overview:

This position will support our Environmental Planning & Permitting team within our Environment business line. Currently AECOM provides environmental planning and permitting services for surface, air, and marine transportation, transit, water, power, oil and gas, and land development projects

The successful candidate will join the Architectural Historian team in Portland as an intern to assist with historic resource projects and tasks, including eligibility evaluations for the National Register of Historic Places.

  • Work will involve research and documentation, report preparation and other duties as assigned.

  • Work will be completed through a variety of independent and group tasks.

  • Candidate is guaranteed a minimum of 180 hours of work.

  • Candidate must be willing/able to work a flexible schedule.

  • Candidate must have physical ability to work in field locations and perform research at repositories (consistent with public health requirements)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in History, English, Historic Preservation, Anthropology, Archaeology, Public History, Architectural History, American Studies, or related

  • Must have completes 1 year of study in relevant academic program

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

  • Willingness/ability to travel and perform field work as needed

  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel software and basic spreadsheet development

  • Working knowledge of architectural drawings and conventions (no CAD experience necessary)

  • Graduate level coursework in History, English, Historic Preservation, Anthropology, Archaeology, Public History, Architectural History, American Studies, or other closely aligned academic discipline
