Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer (Restoration) to be based in Portland, Oregon.

The successful candidate will be responsible for high quality project delivery, with a focus on managing services for stream/river restoration, fish passage design, and fluvial geomorphology. As a Senior Water Resources Engineer they should bring unique expertise on specific technologies or processes, will be able to apply acquired expertise and knowledge to solve business challenges, provide coaching to peers and team members, and will be sought for technical experience and able to influence suppliers. The job involves:

  • Proven experience in stream/river restoration from planning to modeling to detailed design and construction supervision

  • Hydrologic, hydraulic, geomorphic, and sediment transport modeling (e.g., SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D/2D)

  • Stream geomorphic assessments

  • Stream restoration, enhancement, and bank stabilization design

  • Project management (including client management), technical proposal and report writing.

  • Team management, including supervision and/or mentoring.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant experience

  • Strong relations and work history with clients in the Pacific Northwest and ability to leverage existing relationships to grow the business.

  • Experience in construction management or engineering support during construction for stream/river restoration projects.

  • Understanding of federal, state and local regulatory and permitting processes typically required to implement a stream/river restoration project.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD/ Civil 3D and ArcGIS

  • An MS or PhD in a relevant subject.

  • Membership in an appropriate professional organization

  • Certified in WSDOT Fish Passage and Stream Restoration Training

  • Coding experience (e.g. Python) and experience in using/developing digital tools for stream/river restoration.

  • Professional Engineer in Oregon and/or Washington (or ability to obtain PE license within 6 months of hire)

  • Demonstrated experience with hydrologic, hydraulic, and geomorphic concepts, principles, and models.

  • Experience and familiarity with geomorphic field data collection techniques including pebble counts, channel and floodplain morphology measurements, and stream stability assessments.

  • Excellent report writing and ability to clearly present complex technical information visually and orally to a wide audience.

  • Experienced in technical project delivery (from bid preparation/drafting technical proposals to project management).

  • Track record of project management.

  • Ability to coordinate, liaise and engage with clients and key stakeholders.

  • Provide mentoring, guidance and technical advice to support junior staff.

  • Ability to work with a team consisting of several technical disciplines
