Job Description

AECOM’s Portland Transportation group is actively seeking a highly motivated experienced Civil Engineer with experience in railway, roadway, highway, and/or civil site design.

This role will be part of an established Rail/Transit engineering group and will work with a broad variety of transportation clients and projects throughout AECOM’s West Region. Projects may include:

  • Roadway design

  • Freight and Transit track design

  • Transportation and multi-modal planning

  • Transit planning and design

  • Construction Management and Safety audits

In this role you will also work collaboratively with colleagues throughout AECOM’s West Region on rail/transit infrastructure projects for multiple state, local and federal government. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design

elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Due to the nature of work; US citizen required.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or 5+ years of demonstrated engineering equivalency or related engineering experience

  • Oregon Professional Engineers License or ability to obtain license within six months

  • Experience with designs and plans production for transportation/civil infrastructure projects including calculations

  • Prior experience designing railroads/roadways for transportation projects

  • Experience and ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems

  • Experience using InRoads and/or Civil 3D design software packages for the conceptual and detailed design of horizontal and vertical alignments, sections, and 3D modeling on rail and/or highway projects

  • Ability to communicate effectively; verbal and written
