Job Description

AECOM is seeking a creative, highly talented GIS Application Developer based out of our Raleigh, NC office, with the option to be remote. The successful candidate will utilize their design and development skills to deliver products that are high quality, on time and within budget. The developer will participate in the design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and deployment of new customized data-based queried, spatial software and will maintain and improve legacy spatial software. The candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing efficient algorithms for several applications that will leverage spatial and non-spatial data querying and processing. The candidate will work closely with technical and business staff to develop solutions. The ability of the candidate to learn and understand water resources engineering, flood, mitigation, risk mitigation, and project management concepts and apply those concepts in software development will be needed. Due to the varying nature of our projects, our technology staff grow their skills rapidly since each solution requires new approaches and technology components.

The typical responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Support all current applications, as well as take lead in new application development initiatives to rewrite older applications using newer technologies

  • Translate detailed specifications into production-ready code, delivering leading edge geospatial solutions to our clients through desktop applications, web browsers, phones, and tablets

  • Actively participate in the review of business / system requirements to obtain a thorough understanding of needs to deliver accurate solutions

  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems using new technology / approaches

  • Perform systems analysis and functional testing as needed

  • Produce technical documentation that accurately and thoroughly depicts the software design and code base that supports QA testing, deployment, and production support activities

  • Provide technical leadership / guidance to team members as needed

  • Assist with the estimation process and develop Technical Proposals on new projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems/Technology, GIS or a related field plus at least 6 years of relevant programming experience.

  • Minimum of 4 years of GIS programming, preferably in the ESRI suite of products (ArcObjects and Pro SDK).

  • Experience with .NET with C# or VB.NET, SQL, SQL Server 2012 or higher, Object-Oriented Design

  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master of Computer Science

  • Experience in mobile and/or web development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, SQL Server, Python, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript) is a plus.

  • User interface design in WPF.

  • Experience with Source Control such as TFS

  • Experience writing automated test cases

  • Must have an excellent understanding of object-oriented programming and relational database concepts.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve technical issues and problems, identifying different design alternatives

  • Quick learner
