Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented Water/Wastewater Project Engineer for immediate employment in the Raleigh, NC office. The candidate will have a primary focus on water/wastewater utility planning, hydraulic modeling, design, condition assessment, and mapping for federal clients with occasional support of municipal, state, and private clients. The candidate will perform a variety of tasks, including site investigations, field measurements, utility investigations, hydraulic modeling, capacity studies, condition assessments, permitting, conceptual through 100 percent design, cost estimating, and construction administration/observation. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to develop professionally through frequent collaboration with senior engineers, project manager, clients, regulatory agencies, and industry-leading subject matter experts, and attendance at professional conferences.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Utilizes basic engineering principles, judgement, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope

  • Gathers and correlates engineering data using established and well-defined procedures and practices

  • Works on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses

  • Performs work with little supervision

  • Proposes approaches to solve new problems

  • Identifies discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks

  • Provides guidance to entry-level engineers

  • Software use includes, but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Bentley and Innovyze hydraulic modeling packages, Microsoft Office, etc.

  • Records field data using tablets and GPS units

  • Records and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Performs data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction

  • Determines permitting requirements and prepares submittal packages to clients and governing agencies

  • Work under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater practice or senior level team members

  • Able to travel, tolerate variable environmental conditions, walk on uneven surfaces, and lift and carry at least 50 pounds, when needed

  • Ability to travel to locations nationwide on an average of one week per month required. Occasional international travel may be required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline + 4 years of relate experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in planning, modeling, permitting, and/or design of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects

  • U.S. Citizenship is required (due to the nature of the projects)

  • Must be an Engineering Intern (EI)

  • Proven experience in task management or project management

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering

  • Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain PE licensure within one (1) year of employment

  • Progressive experience with federal water/wastewater utility planning, modeling, condition assessment, design, and permitting

  • Demonstrated time management skills, work ethic and attention to detail

  • Experience with ESRI GIS software tools

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives
