Job Summary

The Water Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Survey Rodman for immediate employment in our Roanoke, VA office. In addition, the applicant would support the office design work at different times depending on workloads. The qualified candidate should have a strong survey background and knowledge, be proficient in AutoCAD and/or Microstation software, and a desire to work in a highly collaborative, team environment. The successful candidate will coordinate with other members of the water business line team members and various project managers while working on multiple concurrent projects in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.

Acquires job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks. Normally receives detailed instructions on all work and works under close supervision. Works on a Survey crew and performs manual duties as directed. Cuts brush, drives stakes, carries level rod or prism pole. Assumes rear Chain person position during survey assignment. Maintains survey equipment and survey vehicle. Entry level position, previous experience may not be required.

Overseas travel and personal background record to allow access to government facilities are a requirement of this position.

  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of survey or construction activities.

  • Duties may differ depending on the specialty area.

  • Activities may include setting up and operating equipment; inspecting equipment; inspection of engineering installations for compliance with specifications; maintaining project documentation; assisting with the building, repair, or maintenance of a structure or roadway.

  • Relies on basic understanding of procedures and company policies to plan and accomplish basic goals.

  • Performs a variety of routine tasks and works under close supervision.

  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantative and interpersonal skills

  • Overseas travel

  • clean background required in order to gain access to government facilities

  • U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Proficient use of PC-based applications ( MS Word, Excel, Access), as well as motivated, hardworking team player with attention to detail

  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor

  • Proactive on assignments and demonstrate initiative

  • Must work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • 0-2 years of relevant professional surveying and mapping experience

  • Surveying knowledge for aspects of Boundary, GPS, Topographic and Control Surveying

  • Knowledge in CADD using AutoCADD, Civil3D, Microstation & Geopak
