Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Architecture Designer for employment in the Roanoke, VA office. The Architecture designer will work collaboratively with all team members to cultivate design concepts through modeling, drawings, diagrams, visualization and statistical analyses as part of the process. The Architecture designer will be expected to be proactive in their initiation, creation and presentation of designs. It is important for the Architecture designer to be able to engage in design collaborations and effectively communicate with fellow design/technical professionals and clients. The Architecture designer will need to be able to articulate questions and have a willingness to engage topics outside of their level of expertise. The Architecture designer should demonstrate the ability, confidence, and desire to push the limits of what’s possible while seeking innovative solutions to design problems, providing unique perspectives to the built environment. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops solutions for a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity working under general supervision

  • Exercise independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques, solve problems when encountered, and receives guidance on projects

  • Develops architectural designs to meet project specifications under general guidance

  • Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and working drawings working with senior architects and designers. The extent of the tasks will be based on individual capabilities and experience

  • Develops details and edits specifications under general guidance

  • Prepares graphics and visualizations for project presentations under direction of a senior team leader

  • Coordinates design activities with other engineering disciplines working with senior architects and designers

  • Maintain conformance with building standards, established architectural practices, and applicable building codes

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or other related field required

  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices

  • Ability to clearly communicate with clients and peers

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong technical skills related to visualization, planning, and architectural design

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in NCARB Architectural Experience program (AXP), formerly Intern Development Program (IDP) and actively seeking state Architecture Registration

  • Certification as a LEED Accredited Professional by the USGBC

  • Experience with SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and other related graphic software
