Job Summary

The Civil/Highway Engineering Department of AECOM’s Transportation Business Line is actively seeking a civil engineer for employment in our Rocky Hill, CT office. Under the supervision of a Project Engineer, the appropriately qualified applicant will be part of a Design Team responsible for the design of small to large-scale highway interstate/limited access highway projects. Design responsibilities include: horizontal/vertical geometry, pavement design, 3D modeling, intersection/interchange design, traffic control/staging, signing and pavement marking design, drainage, storm water management, E&S, ADA, pedestrian and bicycle design, etc.

Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer:

  • Obtain and review existing information including some field work/site investigations.

  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Assist in the development of roadway construction, intersection grading, traffic control, signing and pavement marking, E&SPC and post-construction storm water management plans.

  • Develop 3D models using civil engineering software such as Bentley Inroads or Autodesk Civil 3D.

  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and project specifications.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering or other related field required

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as of Land Desktop/AutoCAD, InRoads, InSite, and MicroStation)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate would have some previous work experience with engineering firms, contractors or DOT’s involved in design, construction or management of highway of other transportation related projects.

  • Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD or other civil engineering related software (Civil 3D, Inroads, StormCAD, Pondpak).

  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam

  • Very Familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Work, Excel, Power Point)
