Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented Mid-Level Civil Engineer to join our New England Transportation business line. The ideal candidate will be part of the Rail Systems and Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS) Engineering team located in Rocky Hill, CT, responsible for a variety of engineering tasks including, but not limited to QA/QC, Safety, conceptual engineering, design, planning, final engineering, constructability, and cost estimating.

The ideal candidate will bring their experience working with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Metro-North Railroad, Amtrak, MBTA, or other passenger/commuter railroad agencies along with working knowledge of applicable AREMA, IEEE, NESC and other industry standards.

Typical tasks and daily duties: Serve as an engineer on mid- to large size railroad projects. Apply knowledge and understanding of construction on or about a railroad. Leads the development of civil and structural designs. Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments. Proposes an approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments. Works cohesively with a multi-disciplined engineering team. Will be responsible for the development of designs, plans, technical specifications, quantity, and cost estimates for a variety or railroad-oriented tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Design of equipment and structure foundations and elevated steel equipment platforms;

  • Design of equipment stairs and site walkways;

  • Design of Railroad and equipment retaining walls, grading and site plans;

  • Design and layout of duct banks, cable trays, aerial cable routing;

  • Design of catenary structures, attachment and bracket assemblies;

  • Coordination with adjacent projects in design and construction;

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state & local regulations;

  • Support rail-oriented planning studies and construction cost estimating;

  • Review and approval of structural and civil contractor shop drawings;

  • Review and respond to contractor RFIs and RFCs;

  • Project QA/QC and Safety protocols;

  • Perform basic tasks of project management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

BA/BS in Engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education.

Demonstrated experience working on rail projects.

Valid Driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

EIT or PE License
