The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience, interest and knowledge of transportation/rail and transit planning. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to supporting projects such as major transportation planning studies, feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, comprehensive transportation plans, rail and transit (commuter rail, freight rail, bus transit studies and strategic plans, Complete Streets and Bicycle and Pedestrian plans.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Project Management of small to large scale Transportation Planning Studies and contracts

  • Analyzes planning projects related to transportation including land use policies, impact of projects and long-range planning needs

  • Defines regional and local transportation planning problems and priorities

  • Prepares reports, recommendations, assessments and impact statements on transportation planning

  • Analyzes data from modeling software, Geographic Information Systems or associated databases

  • Collaborates with engineers, economists and travel demand modelers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation, rail and transit design issues

  • May design transportation surveys (online and intercept type) to identify areas of public concern

  • May direct traffic counting programs, rail and transit ridership data collection, bicycle and pedestrian counts

  • Participates in and may lead public meetings or hearings to explain planning proposals, to gather feedback from those affected by projects, or to achieve consensus on project designs

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Engineering, Urban Planning or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in transportation planning

  • Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices and techniques of planning

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating relationships with elected/appointed officials or other decision-makers

  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems

  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Good knowledge of budgeting and project management procedures

  • Ability to provide effective supervision and staff management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Transportation Planning, Engineering, Urban Planning or similar

  • Experience with GIS data development, analysis and programming with InDesign software

  • Public transportation planning, including bus transit and commuter and freight rail project experience
