Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Deputy Resident Engineer for immediate employment for the Sacramento, CA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide senior level construction engineering support for a tunnel construction project Resident Engineer/Owner’s Representative; managing a major, critical, water utility conveyance system, tunnel rehabilitation project, in a mountainous northern California location.

  • Development of Construction Management (CM) skills, to perform the position tasks and responsibilities of Resident Engineer (RE), in the absence, or replacement of the RE.

  • Assist, as required by Client; with Construction Contract preparation, bidding, bid evaluation and award of contracts.

  • Work within, and maintain, the Client’s established Construction Management Information records system, verifying that our CM team is timely and compliant.

  • Receive, process, distribute & return Contractor technical and commercial submittals, maintaining the Client’s recommended review and response procedure.

  • Verify and document, the contractual requirements, per contract conditions precedent, of Contractor required submittals and performance.

  • Manage the flow of contract required documents and required materials, including, but not limited to: Submittal schedule and register, requests for information, monthly pay applications, monthly schedule updates, Contractor payroll records, and regular processing of As-Constructed drawings.

  • Follow thru with Client for timely processing of Contractor Payment Applications.

  • Assist RE, and Contract’s Administrator, in receiving and processing Contractor Claims and Contract Changes.

  • Manage and maintain updated contract drawings, from the Conformed Set thru Final As-Constructed deliverable set.

  • Coordinate with, or act as, QA lead, working with QC Inspectors and Doc. Control staff, for the completion and retention of daily reports, special reports, and project photographic records.

  • Schedule and coordinate sub-consultants to perform specialty testing and inspections.

  • Attend weekly and monthly construction progress meetings, and occasionally, chair such meetings, as needed.

  • Always observe, monitor and strive to correct project safety conditions; continually working within the Project team (Contractor, Construction Mgt, Design, Operations, adjacent public activities), to achieve our zero accident objective for the Project.

  • Assist the RE in development and preparation of Client’s Operations Dpt. annual tunnel water service Shutdown planning and implementation.

  • Maintain an overview for status and completeness, of project records input to the Client’s Construction Management Information System.

  • Implement acceptance of Contractor’s Final Completion of Construction, and Close-out of the Contracts; as required by Contract Specifications, in compliance to Client’s CM Procedures.

  • Prepare, or assist in preparation of, Client’s final project report(s); and archiving of Construction Project Records pursuant to Client’s Construction Management Bureau CM Procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience

  • Prior Owner’s Resident Engineer experience or Prior Construction Contract Project Engineer experience with underground construction work is desirable; however, lower level position experience on large similar heavy construction projects, may be suitable.

  • Experience in on-site, field design support, of similar tunnel construction projects will be considered.

  • Willingness to relocate to a semi remote area in northern California.

Preferred Qualifications

  • California PE license is not required; however, with relevant experience, this would be an asset
