Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Socioeconomic NEPA Specialist to join our Environmental Planning Group. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to join our interdisciplinary team to support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting by writing technical assessments of impacts primarily related to the social and economic areas; interfacing with clients and other technical experts; supporting public outreach efforts; and contributing to a positive teamwork-oriented company culture.

Your experience with consulting or planning with federal agencies; economic modeling (input/output analysis); Environmental Impact Statements (EIS); and Environmental Assessments (EA) under NEPA will allow you to thrive in this role.

Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Managing or contributing to socioeconomic and environmental justice sections for NEPA documents

  • Contributing to forest and natural resource management plans

  • Preparing quantitative and qualitative social and economic impact analysis, including assessment of non-market factors

  • Conducting economic modeling, such as input-output modeling using IMPLAN

  • Interfacing and effectively coordinating with clients and land management agencies (e.g., Forest Service)

  • Contributing to public outreach and engagement efforts including virtual and in-person socioeconomic workshops, surveys, and interviews

  • Preparing specialist reports, including socioeconomic baseline assessments

  • Assisting project managers with all aspects of managing projects from acquisition to completion

  • Contributing to business development, including proposal preparation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology, economics, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience with NEPA Compliance, socioeconomic research and studies or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience with NEPA compliance; economic modeling; Socioeconomic research or reports; environmental permitting; and technical report writing

  • Master’s degree or higher in economics, sociology, or related field (i.e. human geography, anthropology)

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably with environmental consulting firms or with federal agency resource planning (e.g., Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service)

  • Experience with water economics

  • Experience preparing social, economic, and/or environmental justice resources sections for environmental compliance documents

  • Experience with economic modeling, including regional input-output modeling

  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $110,000.00.
