Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a full-time team-oriented Senior Acoustical Consultant to integrate into its San Diego, CA Acoustics team. Candidate would be expected to have the following duties:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and mentor assigned staff in performance of their acoustic-related duties

  • Ensure that fieldwork and client deliverables are performed and prepared per approved company safety and quality policies

  • Prepare and edit client deliverables (e.g., letter reports, technical documents, graphics, and acoustical specifications) for clarity and accuracy

  • Coordinate with teams, architects, contractors, and manufacturers to develop practical design solutions and alternatives for clients

  • Research and review regulatory issues regarding local, state, and national codes

  • Contribute to facility development projects during schematic design (SD), design development (DD), construction document (CD), and construction administration (CA) phases

  • Prepare bid proposals and project cost estimates

  • Manage project/task budgets and review invoices

  • Develop, direct, and perform sound measurement survey plans and fieldwork performance

  • Use computer modeling and results to develop design options and solve project challenges

  • Prepare letter reports, technical documents, graphics, and acoustical specifications

  • Conceive and implement marketing tools and business development approaches to win new projects and clients.

  • While the position typically adheres to a traditional 40-hour per week work schedule, some night and weekend assignments will be required or expected; and, some travel will be required throughout southern California and, as warranted, at client project site locations (or other needs) across the U.S.

Potential project work on or supporting:

  • Support to Del Mar Fairgrounds noise studies

  • CEQA noise sections of IS/MNDs and EIR documents to support AECOM clients across California

  • FERC Resource Report 9 (RR9) noise quality sections (analyses and fieldwork) for AECOM natural gas developer clients

  • HVAC and interior acoustics analyses for new building and renovation projects across the U.S., including performance spaces and sport venues”

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, or other acoustics-related field of study

  • 5+ years of work experience in acoustics and/or noise control field

  • Demonstrated excellent writing (samples of work requested for review) and verbal communication skills (e.g., previous conference technical paper submissions and presentations; or, active public hearing participation)

  • Proven competence with sound and vibration level measurement/monitoring equipment and procedures

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable building information model (BIM) tools and software

  • Experience or proven completed training with modeling tools, such as Cadna/A, Traffic Noise Model (TNM version 2.5)

  • Competence with Excel (database manipulation, mathematical analyses, conditional formatting, etc.)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team (either in-person or remotely)

  • Ability to produce and review project documents, including technical reports, drawings, and acoustical specifications

  • Demonstrated participation on multi-disciplinary team(s) for larger environmental, transportation, or building projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Acoustics, or other acoustics-related field of study

  • Experience with Trane Acoustic Program (TAP) or comparable software and methods for HVAC system noise analysis

  • Experience with EASE, Odeon or comparable tools/software for interior acoustics analysis

  • Familiarity with current ASHRAE Handbook – HVAC Applications

  • INCE Board-Certified (Institute of Noise Control Engineering)

  • Proven project management experience or certification (e.g., PMP)

  • Familiarity with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Park Service (NPS), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and/or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations and guidance with respect to noise/acoustics

  • Practical knowledge and experience with architectural, environmental, engineered acoustics, and vibration issues as related to commercial, educational, healthcare, infrastructure and residential projects

  • Experience working with architects, engineers, developers, and contractors

  • Experience with building codes, acoustical standards, and engineering aspects of acoustics
