AECOM Senior Environmental Planner/ Project Manager in San Diego, California

Job Summary

AECOM’s Impact Assessment and Permitting Department is actively seeking a talented and highly competent Senior Environmental Planner/Project Manager to join our dynamic San Diego and Los Angeles offices. The role involves direct client interaction, proactive business development, and the preparation of competitive proposals responding to RFPs/RFQs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performs and manages CEQA/NEPA projects

  • Oversees the team and project ensuring work is completed on time and within budget

  • Lead teams of professionals in required technical studies in support of the CEQA/NEPA documentation

  • Manages and directs professional and technical staff to complete complex environmental projects

  • Performs work with minimal direction with periodic reporting to group manager

  • Oversees the preparation of work plans, organizes project studies, and prepares reports for large, complex projects

  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed planning products.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws.

  • Oversees specialized planning functions, such as large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies.

  • Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities.

  • Prepares reports on operations and activities, recommending improvements and modifications.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Geography, or similar related field.

  • 6+ years' experience

  • Proven project management and client management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experienced “seller-doer” with existing relationships with public agencies in Los Angeles County.

  • Ability to coordinate and manage large-scale environmental projects and applying environmental regulations.

  • Technical expertise in CEQA/NEPA

  • Strong writing and analytical skills and experience preparing scopes of work, budgets, proposals, and schedules.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to speak effectively in public.

  • Candidate must have a proven sales record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Geography, or similar related field.

  • 10+ years' experience preferred

  • Experience with DOD, local agency, and utility and/or transportation projects.

  • Certified planner.

  • Ability to mentor and lead junior staff.
