AECOM Environmental Planner III in San Jose, California

Job Summary

AECOM is looking for an Environmental Planner III to be based in either our San Jose or Oakland, CA office.

Responsibilities include but aren't limited to the following:

  • Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews.

  • Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, annexations, site plans and plats.

  • Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.

  • Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use and transportation projects.

  • Develops plans, studies and analyses on regional basis.

  • Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management, and others.

  • Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.

  • Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

  • Support senior management with business development and responding to proposals

  • Manage small or medium-sized projects and serve as a deputy project manager or task lead on larger, more complex projects

  • Oversee the work of others and mentor others

  • Background working with clients from public and private utility companies and municipal, state or federal government on environmental compliance documentation and permits; experience working with Monterey Bay and southern San Francisco Bay area agencies preferred.

  • Experience interacting with regulatory agency representatives in Northern California

DCSA—Environment

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Natural Resource or Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning or related field + four years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Natural Resource or Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning or related field

  • 5+ years' experience successfully supporting or managing permit acquisition from federal, state, regional and local agencies

  • Experience as Project Manager or Deputy Manager roles on environmental planning projects

  • Experience preparing NEPA and CEQA environmental documents with extensive knowledge of current regulations and guidance

  • Understanding of the environmental regulatory framework in California, including applicable state and federal laws.

  • Strong individual and collaborative research and analytical abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the editing, oversight or preparation of technical reports

  • Strong organizational skills, database software usage and an ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Actively participated in management of environmental projects including client interaction, schedule and budget controls, and invoicing
