Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our established Savannah, GA based team delivering a complex and continually evolving infrastructure program for the Georgia Ports Authority, one of the largest fastest growing ports in North America. The team also supports southeast private, federal, state, county, and municipal port and marine clients.

As a Civil Engineer, you may be involved in investigation, planning, analysis, design, technical production, and field oversight of many different types of projects including complex marine terminals, Roll-on roll-off (RORO), conventional and automated container yards, intermodal rail, large, paved areas, utilities, roadways, and other port related engineering projects.

This position is expected to begin around September 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, including field investigations and research.

  • Applies engineering principles.

  • Performs basic engineering design tasks (conceptual, layout, and detail) and assist with detail design work.

  • Assists with the coordination and communication on all project activities between departments/divisions.

  • Provide limited technical direction to in-house staff and sub consultants.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Assists with development of presentations and report submittals.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university + none or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in civil engineering preferred.

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate having passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).

  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or ability to quickly attain.

  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD so that the candidate is productive in production review, assist with drawing production and detail design, and provide in-software technical guidance to designers/drafters and less experienced engineers.

  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D, and AutoTURN.

  • Ability to participate in construction progress meetings and construction site visits.

  • Assist to provide technical support during construction including review of contractor’s submittals and shop drawings for conformance to design documents.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
