Job Description

AECOM's Transportation Groupis actively seeking a creative, highly talented Biologist for immediate employment in the Savannah, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential.

The successful candidate will support the multi-discipline environmental group in transportation. This candidate will serve as a mid-level Biologist and perform tasks ranging from fieldwork, report writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping and support among other duties.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Plans and performs unsupervised field tasks, such as wetland and stream surveys, and surveys for suitable habitat and presence of protected species predominantly within coastal GA.

  • Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports; compiles and organizes data collected by others.

  • Prepares data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, assessments of effects, agency coordination, in support of NEPA documents.

  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

  • Works under the supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Assists senior staff with business development for the Transportation Group.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or related field plus two years of related experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two to four or more years of experience in surveying wetlands and streams using USACE standards and guidance.

  • Two to four years of experience with Federal regulatory processes, including Section 404 Permitting, Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); with specific experience on the Coast within the Southeast

  • Demonstrated ability to work on a wide range of projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload.

  • Experience working in the Southeast and receiving State and Federal Authorizations, specific experience working with Georgia Coastal Resource Division and Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

  • Experience in performing ecology surveys and preparing reports for transportation projects administered by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)

  • High degree of professionalism, self-motivation, and desire to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Proficiency in ESRI Field Collection Platforms (Field Map, Survey123).

  • Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral expertise.

  • Self-motivated, driven, and hard working.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Experience working in tidal, intertidal, freshwater tidal, and freshwater ecosystems.

  • Experience and knowledge of both the Atlantic Gulf Coastal Plain and Eastern Piedmont Regions.

  • Experience and understanding of Geographical Information Systems (ESRI), working knowledge of both desktop and online platform use and workflows.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $48,915.12 - $85,601.45.
