Job Responsibilities

Applicants will need to be professional, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to prioritize the successful execution of a wide range of traffic engineering project related tasks. The appropriately qualified applicant will need to clearly demonstrate their interest and knowledge of traffic and fundamentals and how they are applied to improve roadway safety and mobility.

Major responsibilities of this position include serving in a task and project support role under the general guidance and mentorship of experienced staff. Work assignments will vary for this position to allow the employee to gain exposure and experience across a variety of traffic engineering services. The following is a list of the various types of work and tasks that this position may be assigned to support:

  • Traffic studies including planning, design, operations, safety, traffic impacts, signal timing, and evaluation of alternatives through engineering analysis using data, models, and other tools.

  • Data analysis including the compilation, processing, and evaluation of data using spreadsheets, databases, specific software solutions, or other tools to identify trends and draw conclusions relative to enhancing the operations/maintenance of transportation infrastructure.

  • Traffic engineering design work including plan development, specification, and cost estimating under guidance from senior staff to apply client requirements and industry standards.

  • Complete project tasks as assigned in an organized manner, communicating progress, delays, priority conflicts, and other matters with supervisors to support a coordinated project delivery.

  • Safely conduct field work adjacent to active roadways in compliance with AECOM safety requirements when/where necessary to gather data, support design plan development, conduct system testing, and complete other tasks.

  • Communicate effectively in the form of e-mail, memoranda, reports, and presentations.

  • Maintain project records; organize project submittal reviews and other miscellaneous project support tasks.

  • Participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements, explain work, etc.

  • Support TOC activities and assignments including work on client sites etc.

  • Remain abreast of, and incorporate where applicable, new Intelligent Transportation Systems technology.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus two (2) years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as of Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM), MicroStation

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

Additional Information:

  • The selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Registration Screening (MVR).
