Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Project Mining/Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Tucson, AZ.
Responsibilities Include:
Participate in field assignments that will include soil and rock borings, test pits, rock blasting, CPT soundings, geophysical testing; geotechnical instrumentation design and construction; and inspection of mining and heavy earthwork construction projects including tailing dams, stockpiles, leaching operations, foundations, slopes and tunnels.
Develop material properties for soil and rock and evaluate the stability of tailing dams slopes, stock piles, and foundations
Design of tailing dams, leach stockpiles, process and storm water impoundments, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, embankments and cut and fill slopes, and tunnels.
Use computer programs including GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, Settle3, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.
Prepare and review Mining/Geotechnical work plans, Mining/Geotechnical Reports, Alternative Analysis Reports, etc.
Review design plans and specifications and for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.
May lead one or more teams in the delivery of work efforts that are often complex.
Mentor and train junior mining/geotechnical engineers.
Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposals.
Project management – tracking scope, schedule and budget
Have the opportunity to travel to and work in locations both within the USA and around the world.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Geological Engineering
4+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Valid driver's license required
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Mining Engineering preferred.
7+ years of related experience in Mining/Geotechnical Engineering projects.
Arizona PE license or ability to obtain Arizona PE license within 6 months
Solid understanding of performing and managing field work
Project management experience in mining industry and geotechnical consulting
The ability to work well within a team
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
Experience using geotechnical software.
