Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a visionary and dynamic design leader for our Federal Market Sector. This individual can be based in either our Washington, DC, New York City or Atlanta office.

Our ideal candidate is a high caliber, energetic designer, responsible for innovative, high performance design in complex projects, as well as for the overall design excellence of the Federal practice. AECOM offers the opportunity and potential of a large architecture and interior design platform, with varied, multi-disciplinary Federal projects around the nation, providing a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple disciplines in the pursuit of advanced innovative design in today’s complex urban environments.

The AECOM Federal Design Principal will be responsible for leading architecture, master planning, and interior design through advanced, innovative design practices in AECOM’s Federal market, including clients such as GSA, DOS, USDA, Architect of the Capitol, among others. The position offers an experienced creative design professional with substantial experience in the Federal market sector the opportunity to take on a significant national leadership role to grow the Federal practice in an established, successful, global firm.

The design-focused Federal Design Principal will work alongside local and national leaders to build the Federal business by attracting new clients through the excellence of our design responses, as well as through business development initiatives and leadership and exposure in industry organizations.

The Federal Design Principal ensures the design vision and direction of the Federal studio in coordination with the overall design posture and business goals of AECOM, maintaining regular communication with other market sector leaders and practice leads.

The successful candidate will be a high-profile, experienced innovation-minded architectural designer and strong design leader, able to develop and lead world-class architectural concepts that advance AECOM’s design profile and the profession. The design-focused Federal Design Principal will work alongside local and national leaders to build the Federal business by attracting new clients through the excellence of our design responses, as well as through business development initiatives and leadership and exposure in industry organizations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a minimum of 10+ years of related experience in leading the project design for federal market projects, including 2 years of leadership experience

  • US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work performed

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience strongly preferred

  • Registered Architect is preferred
